Scripture – Luke 24:36-40

36 While they were talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 37 They were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a ghost. 38 He said to them, “Why are you frightened, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 Look at my hands and my feet; see that it is I myself. Touch me and see, for a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” 40 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. 

Prayer Focus: We started our current series on Unity’s Annual Vision for Ministry: A Place at the Table, with the disciples’ encounter with Jesus on the road to Emmaus and in the breaking of the bread. We return to that story this week just after those disciples had returned to tell the disciples in Jerusalem about their experience. While they are all talking about all that has happened on the first Easter, Jesus himself stood among them. His first words are “Peace be with you.” Jesus does not come asking them about their doubts or why they fled from the cross. He prays that they might know the peace, the shalom, the wholeness of God. He shows them his hands and his feet. Jesus is raised from the dead; he is not a ghost – he lives again! And yet, his body still shows the marks of his crucifixion. He shows them his hands and his feet. Sometimes we are called the hands and feet of Jesus. Do we bear the same scars?
