1 Then Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem and summoned the elders, the heads, the judges, and the officers of Israel, and they presented themselves before God. 2 And Joshua said to all the people, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Long ago your ancestors—Terah and his sons Abraham and Nahor—lived beyond the Euphrates and served other gods. 

Prayer Focus: This week we return to scriptures from the Old Testament with a text from the end of the Israelites’ Exodus journey. The people have arrived in, and often conquered, the land of promise. Now Joshua shares some final words of remembrance and commitment. He begins, “long ago your ancestors” and goes back to Abraham’s father Terah. As you pray this morning, can you remember the first person in your family that you know was a follower of Christ? What stories do you know about them? Give thanks for their witness that has been passed down to you.
