Monday, April 3: Scripture – John 12:17-19
17 So the crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to testify.
18 It was also because they heard that he had performed this sign that the crowd went to meet him.
19 The Pharisees then said to one another, “You see, you can do nothing. Look, the world has gone after him!”
Prayer Focus: In the Gospel according to John there is a direct link between Jesus’ raising Lazarus from the dead and the religious authorities’ decision to find a way to kill Jesus. Even after Jesus arrives in Jerusalem, the crowds continue to testify about him. The Pharisees declare, “the world has gone after him!” The world in John’s Gospel is the “cosmos” or “all those things working against God’s purposes.” So, for those the Pharisees, who assumed they were doing what God intended, to say that the “world” has gone after Jesus is the ultimate critique. Are you going after Jesus this week all the way to the cross or just when you see the miracles? Pray that you might follow Jesus this week.
