And who took charge of the ocean when it gushed forth like a baby from the womb? That was me! I wrapped it in soft clouds, and tucked it in safely at night. Then I made a playpen for it, a strong playpen so it couldn’t run loose, and said, ‘Stay here, this is your place. Your wild tantrums are confined to this place.’
Prayer Focus: This language is very intimate. Like a mother for her child, God takes charge of the wild, rushing ocean, catches it when it gushes forth from the womb, and tucks it safely in at night. Have you ever thought about God as mother? We hear Jesus call God, Abba, Father, but God takes on the role of all parents in scripture. And not just for us human beings, in these verses we see that God is the nurturing Mother to all of creation, even something as grand and wild as the oceans that cover the earth. This week as you spend time outside, pray and give thanks to God our Father and Mother for all that God has created and cared for.
