9 When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.
Prayer Focus: Jesus was lifted up and a cloud took him out of their sight. Jesus’ ascension has not received a great deal of attention in recent years for most Protestants. We are much more concerned with what Jesus did during his earthly life as a model for our own actions, than with the theology of the ascension. But if Jesus does not ascend to the heavens, he remains tied to a particular time and place in this world. From the “heavens” he becomes Lord and ruler of all times and places. Give thanks that, because of the ascension, Jesus is with you and with me today.
