Friday, March 7th: Scripture – Psalm 121:1-2

Friday, March 7th: Scripture – Psalm 121:1-2

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—

from where will my help come?

2 My help comes from the Lord,

    who made heaven and earth.

Prayer Focus: As we read and pray our way straight through the Songs of Ascent, the psalms in the daily devotions may or may not align with the psalm used for preaching and worship on Sunday. However, this week it does. These verses from Psalm 121 are the theme verses for this Lenten journey and our Stewardship Campaign. They were favorites for me as I grew up in the hills of West Virginia. And yet, go back and read these versus closely. Notice that help comes not from the hills, but from the Lord who made the hills (and everything else for that matter). Lift up your eyes today and seek to see the Lord at work. Do not be distracted by all the other many things which call for your attention.

“A look to the hills for help ends in disappointment. For all their majesty and beauty, for all their quiet strength and firmness, they are finally just hills. And for all their promises of safety against the perils of the road, for all the allurements of their priests and priestesses, they are all, finally lies.’ Peterson, 35.
