39 One of the criminals who were hanged there kept deriding him and saying, “Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”
Prayer Focus: The criminals enter the story again here with one who joins his voice with the crowd, mocking and deriding Jesus. “Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us!” Notice that he’s added his own request to the cries of the crowd. Does the criminal even know what he is asking? Does he really expect that Jesus can save him? Sometimes in the midst of pain and suffering we do not know what to ask the Lord. Pray that even in your silence, the Lord might hear the cries of your heart.
