3 Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us,
for we have had more than enough of contempt.
4 Our soul has had more than its fill
of the scorn of those who are at ease,
of the contempt of the proud.
Prayer Focus: We have recently heard calls in our culture for mercy, for someone to act with kindness and care for those who are afraid. I am so very grateful that God acts with mercy toward me and that I do not get what I deserve. Pray that God might hear the cry for mercy and that we might be filled with the Spirit so that we might have mercy as well.
“Mercy, God, mercy!”: the prayer is not an attempt to get God to do what God is unwilling otherwise to do, but a reaching out to what we know that God does do, an expressed longing to receive what God is doing in and for us in Jesus Christ.” Peterson, 58.
