9 When the person in charge tasted the water that had become wine and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew) that person called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now.”
Prayer Focus: And now John reaches the climax of the story, and our questions are answered: yes, Jesus has indeed transformed the water into wine! With this miracle, Jesus has reordered expectations and ushered in abundance. What was once ordinary, has been made extraordinary and what was expected to be served first, will be served right here and right now, in the middle of the celebration. God rarely works within the confines of our expectations or organized boundaries. Instead, God is on the loose, reorienting our lives and constantly making all things new. Today, let us pray that we may be wide awake to the ways in which God is shaking things up, reversing the order, and challenging our expectations. Let us lift up our prayers of thanksgiving to our abundant, life-giving God, who in Jesus Christ, points to a world in which there is always more than enough.
