Friday, August 26: Scripture – Luke 14:10-11
10 But when you are invited, go and sit down at the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher’; then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you.
11 For all who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Prayer Focus: The parable continues. When you are invited to a wedding, go to the lowest place. The host will find you there and ask you to move to a better seat. You will be honored and everyone else will see you being moved up (instead of being moved down). Those who humble themselves will be exalted. This is an odd parable as it seems to encourage false humility or pretending to be less than we truly are. Perhaps Jesus is saying to just go to the dinner and find a place. The host will decide where you should ultimately be seated. Stop worrying so much about making your own place. The Lord has a place prepared for you, so get ready to eat!
