Friday, April 22: Scripture – Acts 5:27-28
27 When they had brought them, they had them stand before the council. The high priest questioned them,
28 saying, “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and you are determined to bring this man’s blood on us.”
Prayer Focus: The leaders are worried not just about the disciples preaching about Jesus, they are worried about what will happen to them if Jesus’ name is proclaimed. They are the ones in power and they perceive that they have much to lose if this testimony about resurrection keeps spreading. What do you have to lose if the gospel is really true? What might you have to give up to really follow Jesus? What would resurrection from the dead mean to the status quo in your life? Pray that you might recognize what you are holding on to and ask God to give you the courage and faith to let go so that you might truly believe.
