2 It is like the precious oil on the head,
running down upon the beard,
on the beard of Aaron,
running down over the collar of his robes.
3 It is like the dew of Hermon,
which falls on the mountains of Zion.
For there the Lord ordained his blessing,
life forevermore.
Prayer Focus: The imagery of Psalm 133 has always puzzled me. It does not seem very good and pleasant to have oil poured over your head and run down your beard. It sounds a bit messy to me and certainly not a practice that we will be doing in the sanctuary at Unity Presbyterian Church. So what image would we use to describe how good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity? There is a tangible gift that we receive when we exhibit a glimpse of the Kingdom of God in the ways we treat, respect, encourage, and love one another. Pray for that unity – not uniformity – in our community today. Be the one who begins the work of reconciliation.
“What Christ has done is anoint us with his Spirit. We are set apart for service to one another. We mediate to one another the mysteries of God. We represent to one another the address of God. We are priests who speak God’s Word and share Christ’s sacrifice.” Peterson, 175.
