“Angels we have head on high, sweetly singing o’er the plains and the mountains in reply echoing their joyous strains.”
I can actually picture the awe felt by all who heard the angels singing. I have heard those voices. In a freak accident when I was ten, I was electrocuted. I was visiting with a friend whose sister was getting dressed for a prom. The mother asked me to go to the basement to get her corsage out of the refrigerator down there. The basement was flooded, but knowing nothing about electricity I waded through the water and grabbed the handle of the refrigerator. The mother heard me yell. She had to run out of the home to pull the fuse and called for her husband. He was close by. Luckily, he was a doctor and performed CPR.
I was in the brightest of lights, but that was nothing compared to the sound — the glorious sound. Like no music I had heard before. I was surrounded and enveloped by the sound and an astonishing feeling of being surrounded by love and peace. It was only years later that I read a book about after-death experiences that I knew what I had experienced was not unique.
Prayer: Dear Lord, my prayer is that in this time of Advent and Christmas, we may all hear the music and feel the peace in our hearts from the angels’ songs. Through these songs let us be open to your message of the season through the gift of your Son.
