Luke 1:67-79—Zechariah & Elizabeth/The Prophets
“to enable us to serve him without fear in holiness and righteousness before him all our days…to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.” Lk 1: 74b-75, 79, NIV
Listening to the description of Stephen Ministries, I wondered if I had the faith to be part of that mission. I watched the commissioning ceremony and wondered if I had the confidence to be part of that group. I was a new member of Unity Presbyterian Church. Could God use me in this way? Maybe next year. I didn’t wait. Am I making the right decision? Am I hearing God’s call? Uncertainty -> prayer -> confidence. The training program was powerful. Immediately after training, I was paired with a care receiver. Fear -> prayer -> peace.
Scripture says “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” I Corinthians 12:27, NIV. Shortly after that, in I Corinthians 12:28, “God calls…those able to help others.”
The birth of Jesus is significant to me in a very personal way. He came to teach me and demonstrate how I can help others. What an awesome role model. I do the best I can to help others by walking with them on their journey. He does the healing. I look forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus. I want the front row to kneel beside his manger and celebrate HIM.
Prayer: My Living and Loving Jesus, I trust in you to lead me where I can serve you without fear in holiness and righteousness, to shine your light on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death. Please continue to guide me, to abide in me, and to love me. Amen.
