Matthew 2:13-21—Joseph
“Now after they had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, ‘Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.’” Matthew 2:13
In this scripture Herod has been visited by the wise men. When he discovers that they didn’t come back to him, he is very angry. He sends out orders to kill all baby boys who are 2 years old and younger. Joseph has a dream telling him to take Jesus and Mary and flee to Egypt because Herod is going to be looking for him. Joseph then has another dream that it is safe to return to the land of Israel because Herod is dead.
Joseph has at least three dreams that tell him what he needs to do. He does whatever he is told to do. I envy Joseph’s faith. I love the fact that Joseph listens to his dreams and immediately obeys the Lord, taking his family away in the dark of night and then moving somewhere else. I hope I can listen for what God wants me to do and to act as quickly as Joseph.
Prayer: Dear Lord, Please help us to obey like Joseph when you show us what we need to do. Thank you for your guidance and love for all of us. Amen
