Saturday, October 12th – Scripture: The Message Translation – Job 38:34-38

“Can you get the attention of the clouds, and commission a shower of rain?  Can you take charge of the lightning bolts and have them report to you for orders?  “Who do you think gave weather-wisdom to the ibis, and storm-savvy to the rooster?  Does anyone know enough to number all the clouds or tip over the rain barrels of heaven when the earth is cracked and dry, the ground baked hard as a brick?

Prayer Focus:  I’ve only been a parent for about four and a half years.  In that time one of the best parenting facts I’ve learned is that boundaries are good!  Children need boundaries to stay safe and to enjoy the freedom of the space they are given.  We never outgrow the need for boundaries.  Humans like to think we can do anything we set our minds to, however, that’s not true.  We can’t commission the rain or take charge of lightning bolts.  We can’t give weather-wisdom the ibis or the rooster.  Human beings can accomplish incredible feats when we work together for the common good, but even with the best minds in the world, we do not have the power or knowledge that God does.  The trouble is knowing that we are not God.  Pray this week that all of us human beings might realize our boundaries and do the most good that we are capable of within those boundaries.
