Who decided on its size? Certainly you’ll know that! Who came up with the blueprints and measurements? How was its foundation poured, and who set the cornerstone, while the morning stars sang in chorus and all the angels shouted praise?
Prayer Focus: Notice that as God replies to Job, he doesn’t supply Job with any answers, God asks Job question after question. “Who put the earth together?” “How was its foundation poured?” And in later verses, “what do you know,” and “can you?” These rapid-fire questions are startling. Here Job was probably looking for comfort and reassurance, instead, God interrogates Job about his knowledge and part in the creation of the world. Perhaps, Job’s story is a reminder that none of us is God. None of us were there when the earth was put together, and that’s a good thing, think of how we could have messed that task up! There are things that God knows we will never know. Pray this week that as we hear Job’s story, we might rest easier with the knowledge that we have a God who knows all the details, great and small.
