Prayer Focus: This Sunday we will sing and consider the hymn “Here I Am, Lord.” The hymn draws upon imagery from Isaiah 6 and 1 Samuel 3. In the daily devotions this week, we will think about God’s call to Samuel. For in both the hymn and in this text, God keeps calling until we are prepared to hear and answer. But the text begins with the Word of the Lord being rare in those days. Young Samuel is ministering to the Lord in the temple under Eli, but visions were not widespread. Is the word of the Lord rare today? Are visions widespread – and if they are, do we trust them? As we begin this week, pray that you might hear the word of the Lord – because God is speaking to you.
