Friday, March 22nd: Scripture – Mark 14:26-31

26 When they had sung the hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. 27 And Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written,

‘I will strike the shepherd,

and the sheep will be scattered.’

28 “But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee.” 29 Peter said to him, “Even though all fall away, I will not.” 30 Jesus said to him, “Truly I tell you, this day, this very night, before the cock crows twice, you will deny me three times.” 31 But he said vehemently, “Even though I must die with you, I will not deny you.” And all of them said the same.

Prayer Focus: The Passover meal ends with singing a hymn and then going to the Mount of Olives. Jesus predicts that the disciples will fall away and also that he will meet them in Galilee after he is raised up. Peter is determined that he will not deny Jesus. In fact, all of them declare that they will die with Jesus before they deny him. How often do we make these claims? But would you really die for Jesus? In a literal way or a metaphorical way? Can you imagine yourself being faithful until the end? Jesus knows that all will fall away. I suspect he knows that about us too. And yet, he still goes to the cross for us. Give thanks for the Lord’s faithfulness despite our lack of faith.
