Thursday, March 21st: Scripture – Mark 14:22-25

22 While they were eating, he took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.” 23 Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, and all of them drank from it. 24 He said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. 25 Truly I tell you, I will never again drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”

Prayer Focus: The disciple who will betray Jesus is not excluded from the meal. Think about that for a moment – as the Gospel of Mark shares the account of this “last supper,” Jesus knows that one of his closest friends and companions will betray him and he still goes ahead with a meal that includes all of them. Judas is still at the table when Jesus breaks the bread and shares the cup. Who are we to decide who is worthy to come to the Lord’s table if Jesus welcomes even his betrayer? As Thomas Merton once wrote, “Our job is to love others without stopping to inquire whether or not they are worthy.” Pray that this might be so.
