28 “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. 29 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates. 30 Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
Prayer Focus: Jesus returns to the fig tree as a reminder that it is possible to see the changing of the seasons. You will not miss the coming of the Kingdom of God. Many have debated what Jesus meant when he said that this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place. That was over two thousand years ago and still we wait for the kingdom to come in all its glory. Could Jesus have been mistaken? Could a generation be far longer than we typically think? Is he referring merely to his own death and resurrection? As we continue to wait for the Lord, trust that the word has not passed away. Pray that you might trust in the word, even when it confuses you.
