38 John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him because he was not following us.” 39 But Jesus said, “Do not stop him, for no one who does a deed of power in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me. 40 Whoever is not against us is for us. 41 For truly I tell you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ will by no means lose the reward.
Prayer Focus: The disciples were surprised to see someone they did not know casting out demons in Jesus’ name. In fact, they tried to stop him because he wasn’t a part of their club. Jesus says not to stop him, that whoever is not against them is for them. Have you ever been surprised by where you see God? Have you ever heard God speaking to you through a person or situation that would be the last place you would expect to hear it? Throughout this Lenten journey we are called to reorient our lives towards God, which means listening and looking for God everywhere we go. Pray today that you might recognize when God is speaking to you, even if it is in an usual place.
