Friday, December 15, 2023: 2 Samuel 11:2-5—Mothers of the Faith

It happened, late one afternoon when David rose from his couch and was walking about on the roof of the king’s house, that he saw from the roof a woman bathing; the woman was very beautiful. David sent someone to inquire about the woman. It was reported, ‘This is Bathsheba daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite.’ So David sent messengers to get her, and she came to him, and he lay with her… The woman conceived, and she sent and told David, ‘I am pregnant.’”

2 Samuel 11:2-4a, 5

David, a man after God’s own heart, lusts for another man’s wife. David, the great king of Israel, already married to several women by this time. David should have been with his men defending his kingdom, but he wasn’t. He looked, desired and took. Why does this happen?

Sometimes we all make REALLY BIG mistakes.

Early in my life, I wanted to become a missionary, to teach others about GOD. I loved GOD’s Word and Church. But, by my college years, I felt like I had abandoned my plans and my GOD. But GOD had not abandoned me. He brought my focus off the sin of the world and back to himself. Sin is a universal problem. It affects ALL people everywhere. Paupers, kings, men and women. No one is immune. Not one human being. Not me. Not you.

God has always had a plan to eliminate sin from his children’s lives through his son, Jesus, a direct descendant from David’s sin-induced encounter. That is why we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. He SAVES us from this sin problem by faith in Jesus Christ alone. No work on our part, just belief and trust in GOD’s Word alone. We will abandon GOD, but our GOD will never abandon us.

Prayer: Lord GOD don’t let sin sidetrack us from trusting You, our amazing, mysterious, knowable, forgiving, loving GOD. Amen
