“So Abram went, as the Lord had told him.” Genesis 4a
“To Abraham and Sarah”1 is a hymn written by Judith Fetter at the time when her husband, a pastor, anticipated their acceptance call to a Methodist mission in northeast Brazil. The following is the second and third stanza of the hymn.
From Abraham and Sarah
arose a pilgrim race,
dependent for their journey
on God’s abundant grace.
and in their heart was written
by God this saving word:
‘that you shall be my people
and I will be your God.’
We of this generation
on whom God’s hand is laid,
can journey to the future
secure and unafraid!
rejoicing in God’s goodness
and trusting in this word:
‘that you shall be my people
and I will be your God.’
When I am at a crossroads – whether it be a move in residence or a change in life circumstances – may I, like Abraham and Sarah, be faithful and obedient and trust in God’s promise.
Prayer: Creator God, Alpha and Omega, we praise you! Your goodness, protection, and abundant grace are beyond measure from generation to generation. May we respond with trust, faithfulness, and obedience to you. In Jesus’ name, Amen
