Prayer Focus: This week and next week we will be thinking about two of Jesus’ parables as recorded in the 25th chapter of the Gospel according to Matthew. We read these kingdom parables with a reminder that while stories are designed to illustrate something about the kingdom of heaven, they are not literal descriptions of the kingdom. We begin with ten young women who take their lamps as part of a bridal procession. Five were foolish and five were wise. Contrasts between the foolish and the wise is a common storytelling technique. I suspect that most of us are a little of both. Pray that God might reveal the ways you are foolish today and guard you from becoming too boastful about your wisdom.
