Monday, September 11: Scripture – Acts 11:19
19 Now those who were scattered because of the persecution that took place over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, and they spoke the word to no one except Jews.
Prayer Focus: Just before his ascension, at the beginning of the Acts of the Apostles, Jesus tells his disciples that they will be witnesses in Jerusalem, in Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. This comes true as after the stoning of Stephen and the persecution of the young church in Jerusalem, the disciples scatter to the ends of the earth. We join the story at this point as disciples are traveling as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch. As they go they continue to speak “the word” or the good news about Jesus – although at this point they focus on sharing the news with their own people. Pray that you might share “the word” wherever you travel today. Be prepared because you never know who might need to hear a good word about Jesus.
