Tuesday, August 22: Scripture – Matthew 16:14
14 And they said, “Some say John the Baptist but others Elijah and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
Prayer Focus: The disciples have done their research with the public. Who do the people say that the Son of Man is? Some say John the Baptist, but others are waiting for Elijah. There are some throwbacks who would really like to see a Jeremiah or one of the prophets. These prophets were all truth-tellers (not fortune tellers) who often found themselves at odds with those with power and authority. Sounds like the people think the Son of Man (ie Jesus) is courageous but potentially a troublemaker on behalf of God. Is that the Jesus you see depicted in churches, online, in the media today? Pray that you might have eyes to see Jesus.
