Friday, July 21: Breaking Bread
“After he took his seat at the table with them, he took the bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. 31 Their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he disappeared from their sight.” -Luke 24:30-31
Consider: It was only after Jesus broke bread with the disciples that they recognized him. Sharing a meal with someone is an intentional act of relationship building. In our house mealtime is special. We put away our screens and distractions, and we spend our time looking at one another, talking with each other, and eating together because we need that connection.
Reflect: What tables are you sitting at this week? Who are you sitting with? Who is missing? Who are you getting to know better this week over a shared meal? What foods are on your table and where did they come from? How might our tables reflect Christ’s love for us?
Prayer: God of grain and grape, thank you for providing for us. As we gather at tables this week, help us to know one another and to recognize your presence among us. Amen.
