Music: God Be in My Head – Andrea Ramsey
Prayer Focus: Today’s prayer first appeared in English in 1513 in a Book of Hours (a resource for praying throughout the day). It was revived in the early 20th century when it was set to music by composer Sir Walford Davies. The beauty of the prayer is in its simplicity. As you listen to this charming setting for treble choir by American composer Andrea Ramsey, notice how the prayer focuses on a greater connection with God. As the prayer progresses, the focus moves down our bodies – from the crown of the head (our minds), to the eyes, to the mouth, to the heart, and finally to our departure from this earth. Meditate on each line and pray God to guide how you see, understand, and interact with others in the places you find yourself today.
God be in my head — and in my understanding;
God be in my eyes — and in my looking;
God be in my mouth — and in my speaking;
God be in my heart — and in my thinking;
God be at my end — and in my departing.
