Music: Prayer of St. Francis – Robert Delgado, based on an anthem by Allen Pote

https://youtu.be/8hdWWCHyr_E

Prayer Focus: This well-known prayer has been widely attributed to St. Francis of Assisi (1181-1226), although there is no evidence that Francis penned the prayer. The beautiful prayer of peace was circulated widely during both World War I and World War II and has been quoted by religious and political figures such as Mother Teresa, Desmund Tutu, and Margaret Thatcher. Because of its inclusive language, other faiths have also embraced the prayer’s message of service to others. As you listen, think how you might be an instrument – a means, a channel, a vehicle – of God’s peace. May we be a blessing to those we encounter by greeting them with hope, light, joy, and love.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
