Music: Christ Be with Me – Julie Cameron-Hall

https://youtu.be/2zR4ZSZPjmw

Prayer Focus: According to legend, St. Patrick wrote this prayer in 433 A.D. before he converted the king of Ireland to Christianity. It is often called “St. Patrick’s Breastplate,” as it is a type of prayer called lorica (Latin for “breastplate” or “armor”), or one that asks for divine protection. It is an expansive prayer in eleven sections, acting as a statement of faith as well as a prayer for safety. Listen to this Celtic-style setting of a portion of the prayer. The author longs for nearness and intimacy with Christ. How might we acknowledge Christ’s nearness in our daily lives? How might we identify Christ in those around us? How might we show the world that Christ lives in us?

Christ be with me; Christ within me; Christ behind me; Christ before me; Christ beside me; Christ to win me. Christ to comfort and restore me. Christ beneath me. Christ above me. Christ in hearts of all who love me. Christ in mouth of friend or stranger. In his name I will rise. In the name of the Father, the Son, the Spirit – I will rise.
