Friday, June 30
Throughout the months of June and July, our daily devotions will be invitations to pray, perhaps in familiar ways and sometimes in new ways. This week as we prepare to celebrate communion in worship on July 2nd, we invite you to join us in praying some of our favorite mealtime prayers and if there is a story about why.

Many years ago, at the church I served in Lancaster, I helped with the youth group on Sunday evenings. Parents provided a “snack supper,” and the tradition was that whichever youth volunteered to say the blessing would be first in line to eat. I’m not sure if it was the Spirit or the nacho bar that led this particular youth to pray one evening, as she was not typically one to speak up. When she did, she prayed in a song – “A-B-C-D-E-F-G, thank you God, for feeding me.” How simple! It’s stuck with me, and we’ve taught it to our daughter Quinn to pray around our table at home. Sometimes the best prayers aren’t flowery, but straight to the point and easily recalled.
