Monday, June 12
Throughout the months of June and July, our daily devotions will be invitations to pray, perhaps in familiar ways and sometimes in new ways. Last week we invited you to listen as well as speak in your prayers, using scripture as a guide. This week, as we welcome over 100 children to our campus each day for VBS, we will consider how children can serve as spiritual guides for us in our prayer lives.
The wolf shall live with the lamb;
the leopard shall lie down with the kid;
the calf and the lion will feed together,
and a little child shall lead them.
Isaiah 11:6
Betty Shannon Cloyd in her book, Children and Prayer (Upper Room Books, 1997), tells us, “Children, because of their innocence, are closer to the mysteries of life than the rest of us. They can teach us if we let them, to live in wonder of all that God has created. To see everything with the eyes of the child brings us again a profound sense of awe and amazement.”
Today, stop and look at the world around you. Notice God’s beautiful creation and say thank you to God. Ask God to restore in you a child-like sense of awe and wonder for the world in which we live. If you have more time, you might even challenge yourself to take a picture each day this week of something for which you are grateful.
