Monday, January 16: Scripture – Acts 10:24-26
24 The following day they came to Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends.
25 On Peter’s arrival, Cornelius met him and, falling at his feet, worshiped him.
26 But Peter made him get up, saying, “Stand up; I am only a mortal.”
Prayer Focus: We are joining the story of Peter and Cornelius in the middle of this chapter. Cornelius, a gentile, has summoned Peter, a Jewish Christian, to his house. Peter agrees to go because he just experienced a vision from God. When Peter arrives, Cornelius falls at his feet, worshiping him. Peter rebukes Cornelius saying that he is only a man. We are all prone to worship our heroes. Perhaps on this day to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr., we might even be tempted to “worship” this great civil rights advocate and leader. Be inspired by your heroes, but pray that your worship might always be directed only to God.
