Wednesday, December 7: Scripture – Matthew 3:1-3, NIV
1 In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea
2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”
3 This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’”
My favorite newspaper comic each Sunday was The Family Circus. Many times, the young boy, Billy, would be asked to go somewhere, and he would run all over the yard…climb a tree… stop for a snack…and chase a dog before making it to his final destination. John the Baptist was sent by God to prepare the way of the Lord. John tells us to prepare the way for the Lord by making straight paths for him. He tells us to repent, to change our hearts and minds. We know that “Jesus is the Reason for the Season,” but is our path straight for Him? Are we like Billy in The Family Circus… going to the store…wrapping presents…baking cookies…and hanging decorations? OR are we on a straight path to the manger?
Prayer: God, help me to make my path straight to you.
