Tuesday, December 6: Scripture – Isaiah 40:6-8
A voice says, “Cry out!”
And I said,[a] “What shall I cry?”
All flesh is grass;
their constancy is like the flower of the field.
7 The grass withers; the flower fades,
[[when the breath of the Lord blows upon it;
surely the people are grass.
8 The grass withers; the flower fades,]]
but the word of our God will stand forever.
The Bible is my best friend. It is a source of comfort, clarity, direction, encouragement, hope, joy, and growth. It has been a faithful companion for decades. GOD is always present on every page. He reveals his glory through the attributes of grace, love, power, majesty, equipping and provision for his people. The scope of GOD’s creativity, his wisdom, his desire for relationship with people, and mercy are unimaginable. The Bible is a library full of action, adventure, passion, history, gore, hardships, deceit, good versus evil, wisdom, prayers and songs all in one book! I can relate to so many of these stories. But the very best thing about GOD’s word is that it is truthful and timeless. In every time of my life, childhood, teenager, young adult, married, parent, widowed, aging, I have found life in this book. It is better than a daily vitamin! When I struggle to make a decision, I hear GOD’s direction. When I am lonely, he fills me with hope and comfort. When I am anxious or afraid, he stills my heart with love and confidence. I am like the grass. I will wither away and be forgotten. But not GOD or his word. They will never change. A glorious blessing, indeed.
Prayer: Thank you GOD for your perfect, all-sufficient gift. I ask that you will reveal your glory to everyone who reads or hears it. Amen.
