Thursday, October 20: Scripture – 2 Timothy 4:11-12
11 Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me in ministry.
12 I have sent Tychicus to Ephesus.
Prayer Focus: As Paul goes through his “rolodex” of Christian companions and helpers, he asks Timothy to get Mark and bring him, for he is useful. Asking for Mark because he is “useful” strikes me as odd. Ideally our relationships with others should not be transactional in that we want people around as long as we derive some benefit from them. And yet, we also pray that our companions bring gifts and skills that enable all of us to do far greater ministry than we can do alone. Pray that you might not take advantage of the presence of others. Pray that you will value your friends and companions because of your great love for them and not just for how they might be useful to you.
