Wednesday, September 7: Scripture – Psalm 51:6-9
6 You desire truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have crushed rejoice.
9 Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.
Prayer Focus: If you work outside on a hot summer day, maybe in the dirt of the garden or cutting wood or mowing the grass, and then come inside and change your shirt, would you say you are clean? How about just changing your shoes? No, we need to be washed fully to be clean. The Psalmist expands that image to say that God desires truth in the inward being and wisdom in my secret heart. We need to be washed from the inside out to be truly clean from our sins. As we’ve prayed the last two mornings: Do not be afraid to pray today for mercy. Pray that you might be washed and cleansed by the God of steadfast love.
