Tuesday, August 23: Scripture – Luke 14:5-6
5 Then he said to them, “If one of you has a child or an ox that has fallen into a well, will you not immediately pull it out on a Sabbath day?”
6 And they could not reply to this.
Prayer Focus: I have had people tell me, “Well, preacher, my ox was in a ditch, so I didn’t make it to church today.” The ox in a ditch serves as a stand in for whatever necessary task had to be accomplished that morning. There are obviously emergencies that happen and moments when the life of your children or your animals is truly at risk. Do not hesitate in those moments – save them! But do not use the “ox in a ditch” as an excuse to neglect the good and necessary practices of worship, study, service, and fellowship. Pray for the wisdom to discern and to act wisely today.
