Monday, August 22: Scripture – Luke 14:1-4
1 On one occasion when Jesus was going to the house of a leader of the Pharisees to eat a meal on the Sabbath, they were watching him closely.
2 Just then, in front of him, there was a man who had edema.
3 And Jesus asked the experts in the law and Pharisees, “Is it lawful to cure people on the Sabbath or not?”
4 But they were silent. So Jesus took him and healed him and sent him away.
Prayer Focus: On his way to dinner at the house of a leader of the Pharisees, Jesus comes across a man in need. No one seems to question if Jesus has the ability to heal the man or not. The question Jesus himself poses is whether or not it is lawful to heal on the Sabbath. It is a good thing to heal. It is a good thing to rest from work on the Sabbath. Which “good” takes priority? When you have competing demands on your time, when there are too many “good” things to do, pray for wisdom to choose well. Pray that you will choose what brings new life to those in need.
