Sunday, August 14: Scripture – Hebrews 12:1-2
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us,
2 looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.
Prayer Focus: We have courage to walk forward on this journey because we do not walk alone. We are surrounded by the saints who have come before us and we are uplifted by the gifts that they have shared with us. We have a lot to be thankful for and we can continue on our way with courage and hope because of the incredible witnesses that travel the way with us. The question we must ask ourselves is, how are we being good saints today? How are we living our faith in a way that uplifts and encourages those around us? Pray today that you might run your race faithfully in the footsteps of those who have come before you.
