Tuesday, June 28: Scripture – Exodus 3:4-6
4 When the Lord saw that he had turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”
5 Then he said, “Come no closer! Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.”
6 He said further, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
Prayer Focus: When the Lord sees that Moses turns aide, God calls to him from the bush. He tells him that he is on holy ground, so he should come no closer. He also identifies as the God of the ancestors – the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. From the fire, God is mysterious and known, wholly other and connected throughout the generations. How do you most often experience God in your life? Is God distant, powerful and mysterious? Is God close, present in your extended family, and calling you by name? Pray that you might not be afraid to encounter God today. Lift up your eyes, look into the fire, and hear God calling your name.
