Monday, June 27: Scripture – Exodus 3:1-3
1 Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian; he led his flock beyond the wilderness and came to Mount Horeb, the mountain of God.
2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of a bush; he looked, and the bush was blazing, yet it was not consumed.
3 Then Moses said, “I must turn aside and look at this great sight and see why the bush is not burned up.”
Prayer Focus: As we continue to explore different biblical images associated with the Holy Spirit, this week we turn to “fire.” In one of the key texts from the book of Exodus, Moses is keeping the flock of his father-in-law Jethro when he encounters a blazing bush that was not consumed. While it says “the angel of the Lord” appeared to Moses in the bush, we later learn that it is the Lord himself that speaks to Moses from the fire. The fire catches Moses’ attention and causes him to turn aside from what he was doing. What is God doing today to catch your attention? Pray that you might notice the way the Spirit is trying to speak to you today.
