Saturday, April 30: Scripture – John 21:15-17
15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.”
16 A second time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Tend my sheep.”
17 He said to him the third time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter felt hurt because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” And he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.
Prayer Focus: After breakfast, Jesus asks Simon Peter three times: Do you love me? Three times Peter responds, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” Three times to declare his love in response to the three denials in the high priest’s courtyard. Three times Peter is told, “Feed my sheep.” To love the Lord is to feed the Lord’s sheep. In worship tomorrow we will celebrate with our confirmation class as they make their public professions of faith. We will only ask them once if they love the Lord and promise to live their lives as a disciple, but the declaration they make will be just as true. Pray for our confirmation students today! Pray that you might live out the promises of faith you made in your own life, whether that was a few days ago or a lifetime ago.
