Tuesday, February 15: Scripture – Luke 6:29-30
29 If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from anyone who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt.
30 Give to everyone who begs from you; and if anyone takes away your goods, do not ask for them again.
Prayer Focus: This section of the Gospel of Luke is known as the Sermon on the Plain as it contains many of the same teachings that Jesus shares in the Sermon on the Mount (found in Matthew’s Gospel). In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus’ instructions about offering the other cheek and giving away shirts seem to be directed to challenging an oppressive system. Here they are expressions of love. How do you put your love into action? We will be thinking particularly about that theme during the month of March, but pray that God will begin to reveal ways to put your love into action today.
