Sunday, November 21: Scripture – John 18:38b-40

After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again and told them, “I find no case against him. 39 But you have a custom that I release someone for you at the Passover. Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?” 40 They shouted in reply, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a bandit.

Prayer Focus: Without an answer to his question, Pilate apparently decides that Jesus is not a threat after all. He goes back outside to the leaders and tells them he has no case against Jesus. He asks if they want the King of the Jews released. They shout in reply that they want another man, Barabbas. Barabbas was a bandit. His name means “Son of the Father.” We know the true Son of God is giving his life, while this bandit “Son of the Father” will be released. We must choose which one we will follow. Pray on this Christ the King Sunday that you will choose the one who gives you life, not the one who takes it away.
