28 Regard your servant’s prayer and his plea, O Lord my God, heeding the cry and the prayer that your servant prays to you today;
29 that your eyes may be open night and day toward this house, the place of which you said, ‘My name shall be there,’ that you may heed the prayer that your servant prays toward this place.
Prayer Focus: Solomon knows that the answer to his question yesterday, “Will God dwell in this place?” is no. God cannot be contained in a single place, no matter how amazing or historic. God is the Lord of heaven and earth. So Solomon asks that God will pay attention to the prayers offered in the temple. That God will hear and respond when servants of the Lord pray in the temple. Like an embassy in a foreign country, the Lord’s name will be here, and what is offered in that place will be pleasing to God. Give thanks today that the Lord hears the prayers of God’s people offered in the Historic Sanctuary and the Courtyard. Give thanks that not only in those places, but in your very life, the Lord’s name is present with you.
