Prayer Focus: Our hymn today, “The Church’s One Foundation” begins to shift our focus from the Reformation to All Saints Day. It is a beautiful hymn, sung with heartfelt passion as a solo in today’s video. I hope this version helps us hear the hymn in a new way because it was a hymn written primarily as a teaching tool. In the midst of an 1860’s controversy about scripture in the Church of South Africa, Samuel Stone wrote a set of twelve hymns based on the Apostles’ Creed. The Church’s One Foundation is based on the creed’s ninth article: I believe in … “the holy catholic church, the communion of saints.” The majority of our faith, understanding, and theology comes from the hymns or songs that we sing (far more than any sermons we hear!). Pray that your faith will be enriched and deepened by what you sing today. Listen for a new word or turn of phrase that is God speaking to you.

Remember – for the first time since the pandemic began, we will have significant congregational singing on Sunday. To do so as safely as possible, masks will be required this week.
