5 When he looked up and saw a large crowd coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread for these people to eat?”
6 He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he was going to do.
Prayer Focus: Does Jesus test us? I’ve never been fond of the idea that God or Jesus “test” us. It seems cruel and disingenuous to be tested if the outcome or decision is already known. However, that is what we find as Jesus asks Philip, “Where are we to buy bread for these people to eat?” Jesus knows there is nowhere to buy enough bread, but he knows what he is going to do. Pray that you might trust that the Lord will provide today, even when it appears there will not be enough.
