Thursday, October 14: Scripture – Hebrews 5:5-6

5 So also Christ did not glorify himself in becoming a high priest, but was appointed by the one who said to him, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”;

6 as he says also in another place, “You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.”

Prayer Focus: Christ did not seek his own glory in becoming a high priest. No, Christ was appointed and called to this task. The preacher references the voice from the heavens that Jesus heard at his baptism, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you.” In another place, there is reference to being a priest forever. Jesus’ role as our priest, as the one who intercedes for us, is not a temporary position. He is our high priest forever. Give thanks today that you always have one who stands beside and before you with God the Father. It is Jesus Christ!
